Am-Am Sison of NTUF Foundation discussing the Hope Kitchen

We are here to end hunger. It is that simple. Ironically, this simplest of missions seems so hard to achieve. Or is it? What if the solution is indeed as simple as the mission statement? What if the answer lies within just one idea? What if the problem of hunger could be addressed with one simple yet powerful word? Solidarity.  Read more “End Hunger -Hopeful Summit in the Cordillera Summit” →

NTU Office Tools Training: A Gateway to the Technological…

In 1990, Microsoft released its very first office suite, a collection of bundled productivity software intended to be used by office and knowledge workers. From then on, Microsoft and other competing development companies advanced, expanded and innovated the initial applications in conjunction with the accelerating technological change. Sadly, 27 years since the introduction of the first office suite, there still exist quite a number of people without access to these essential tools required to be competent in the majority of industries today. The unwieldy truth is that bright and talented yet poverty-stricken individuals grow up unaccustomed to the applications that would have given them promising careers in multiple modernized fields.

No matter what field we are in, we train for a specific goal. For runners, the sweat, the cramps, the blisters, the dizzy spells, the exhaustion, all of these are endured to reach a personal achievement. To some, it is for good health. To others, it is breaking the wall and proving to oneself that you can go beyond your limits. But imagine running towards an end that is so much greater. Each step towards the finish line is a step towards finishing penury. Each drop of sweat is a drop of goodwill for the unprivileged. Each torn muscle strand is a thread of lifeline for the nation. That is what NTU Foundation’s Heroes Run is all about.

Hoops Academy: Building a Bright Future Through Sports

Arnis, also known in some regions as Eskrima or Kali, the local art stickfighting, is the official Philippine National Sport and rightly so. It is a world-reknowned all-Filipino combat sport. The martial art has its roots dug deep into the history of our nation dating back to the pre-Hispanic era. Be that as it may, ask a group of Filipinos what the most popular sport in the country might be and the answer will undeniably be a unanimous vote for the Naismisthian team sport: BASKETBALL. Dwarfing any other competition in the country, one will not be wrong in saying that the sport of hoops is the unofficial National Sport of the Philippines.

A hero, by definition, is a person who, in the face of danger, combats adversity through impressive feats of ingenuity, bravery or strength, often sacrificing their own personal concerns for a greater good. This will always be the true meaning of the word. But not all heroes wear capes, nor armor, nor weilding weapons of grand design. Likewise, not all adversaries are physical embodiments of evil, wreaking havoc and causing terror with armies of dread. No, heroes and villains can be much more subtle yet still as significant as those that were mentioned. Read more “NTU Foundation’s Big Hero Campaign” →

Cuisine of Ambition. Cookhouse of Wishes. The Hope Kitchen

There exists a simple recipe to help end hunger. A cup of dreams, a pint of love, a gallon of fellowship, and an ounce of empathy, all braised in a saucepan of solidarity. Ironically, for such a simple recipe, it seems that hunger is still rather prevalent in our own backyard.

Around three in ten children in our country are stunted. Two out of ten are underweight, seven in a hundred are wasted and four percent are overweight. These are but the simplest of statistics but it already reflects the need for action to help the children in this nation. Read more “Cuisine of Ambition. Cookhouse of Wishes. The Hope Kitchen” →
